A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website. My name is Jennifer Hewitt and I provide both short- and long-term counselling to adult individuals.
Life can be really tough. Sometimes it's circumstantial and everything feels like it's out of our control. Other times we can just feel low, depressed, anxious and confused by our own thoughts. Going through any (or all) of these can be overwhelming and make life even harder.
As a qualified counsellor, I bring a unique blend of professional expertise and first-hand experience to my practice. I create a safe and nurturing environment where clients feel heard and understood. With a compassionate and empathic approach, I want to help you explore your emotions, confront challenges, and cultivate resilience. Drawing from both my professional training and personal life experiences, I am dedicated to helping all my clients navigate life's obstacles and achieve greater emotional well-being.
I have particular experience in providing counselling for end of life, caregivers, instances of sexual abuse, legacy work, neurodiversity, depression, anxiety and self-esteem issues. It's not easy to reach out, it's not easy to decide to invest the money, it's not easy to feel vulnerable and expose yourself to a stranger but having seen the positive impact counselling has had on the lives of my clients makes me believe it's the start of finding a happier version of yourself.
My commitment to the well-being of my clients shines through in an unwavering dedication to helping them achieve greater mental and emotional health and would be welcoming to anyone reaching out.
The BACP explain that “Therapy provides a safe and confidential space for you to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns. Your therapist will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others.
A counsellor will not give you their opinions or advice or prescribe medication. They will help you find your own solutions – whether that’s making effective changes in your life or finding ways of coping with your problems.”
Most importantly, it’s confidential. From making an enquiry to having sessions, all contact is kept in confidence so you can feel secure in knowing your privacy is respected.
The style of counselling I provide puts you at the centre of the process. Nobody knows you better than yourself so it’s not my place to tell you what to do or how to feel. I will help support you in exploring what’s happening for you, working together to process it with a view to helping you achieve a happier version of yourself.
There is no typical session. There is no right or wrong in terms of what you want to bring or how you bring it. However, if you’re finding it difficult to know where to start, I will support you in finding the best place to begin.
As a person centred counsellor, you can expect empathy, genuineness and no judgement. I admire anyone who is taking the steps to invest in themselves and subsequently will warmly welcome those coming for support.
Although getting in touch can feel like a big step, I’m hoping to make it as easy as possible. You can call, text or email with any queries you have about the service or ask to have a consultation. We can arrange to catch up on the phone, in person or online. If you’re feeling nervous just let me know and we can make sure we make it as comfortable as possible for you.
People have all sorts of reasons for wanting to give counselling a go.
I have particular experience with clients who have received a diagnosis, received a short prognosis, those receiving palliative care and carers of those who are unwell.
I also have experience working with historic sexual abuse, anxiety, self confidence issues and legacy work.
However, as a person-centred counsellor I am able to assist with a vast number of issues and concerns such as:
Feelings of stress or anxiety
Panic attacks
Relationship problems
Grief, loss or bereavement
Problems with addiction
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
Abuse
